Welcome to Mrs. Jensen's First Grade Class
Welcome to First Grade in Room 4!
First Grade is an exciting and challenging time for your child. Your child will be learning reading, writing, adding, subtracting, telling time, and how to make connections with the world. Together, we can make your child's learning experience fun and exciting!
There are so many new experiences in First Grade. This year will be full of important transitions. Each child learns at his or her own rate, acquiring knowledge and new skills as he/she is developmentally ready. It is very important to celebrate the little successes as well as the big ones. Building each child's self esteem and a love for life long learning is important. There is a saying: "It takes a village to raise a child," that I firmly believe in. This means that the family and the teacher need to work together to inspire, teach, and support the child in their endeavors to learn. I welcome any input you have into your child's education. Here are some ways to support your child:
Parent/Teacher Relationship: I believe that it is important to have a good parent/teacher relationship to insure your child's in school. I welcome any information about your child that you feel would help him/her be successful in school. I will communicate with you throughout the year with notes, phone calls, parent/teacher conferences, and report cards. If you have any questions, thoughts, or concerns, please feel free to contact me. You can leave a message at (707) 542-3671, send me a note, or email me. I am always available for conferences after school by appointment. if you are interested in helping in the classroom, I need to have one weeks advance notice so I can plan something for you to do. Also, you must sign in at the office before coming to the classroom. This is district policy.
Birthdays: If you are interested in celebrating your child's birthday at school, I need to know in advance. Please bring a healthy snack instead of cupcakes. See me for ideas. Also, we have an allergy to carrots in our class, so please do not bring anything that has "hidden" carrots in like carrot cake.
Changes in transportation or after school care: Please send a written note if there is a change in transportation for your child. If I do not receive a written note, I will send your child home by his/her usual method of transportation. This also applies to Cool School and The Boys and Girls Club. I will continue to send your child to these programs if enrolled, unless I receive written notice that you are picking them up or want them sent home on the bus.
Snack: Please send a healthy snack with your child daily. Some ideas are fruit, vegetables, crackers, and cheese. Please do not send cookies, chips, or cheetos.
Homework: Homework goes home each Friday beginning the third full week of school. It is due the following Friday. All homework must be completed and checked by the parent. The reading log must be filled out for every day of the week, including weekends. Children who return their completed homework on Fridays get to participate in Fun Friday, a time for free play, extra P.E., and special art projects.
I look forward to teaching your child and working with you to realize their full potential as a life long learner.
